How To Play Fortnite On Mobile Device
Fortnite for Android has been out for a while now. So has the version for iOS hardware devices. However, in August 2020, Fortnite's developer and publisher Epic launched a new direct payment system from inside the iOS and Android apps. That's a major violation of Apple and Google's policies, which require app developers to give up a large percentage of any revenue from apps or games that use their respective app stores.

In retaliation, Apple removed Fortnite from its iOS App Store, and Google also took the game out of its Play Store. While you can still download and install Fortnite via the Epic Games app without the Google Play Store, the same cannot be said for new installs for the game for iPhones or iPads. That's the reason why some people have resold some iPhones with Fortnite pre-installed for thousands of dollars. However, you can install the Fortnite iOS app on your iPhone or iPad if you have previously downloaded the game on your device.
Here's how to install, or rather reinstall, the Fortnite iOS app on your iPhone or iPad. We also tell you how to do install Fortnite on a new Android device.
Install Fortnite iOS app on your iPhone or iPad
- Open the iOS app store, and then tap on the account icon on the top right corner.
- Tap on the Purchased section.
- Tap on the My Purchases option. You should see a long list of all of the app purchases you have made under your account.
- Search for Fortnite on your My Purchases page. When you find it, please tap on the cloud icon next to it.
- That's it. You should be able to should then install the Fortnite iOS app on your iPhone or iPad.
Keep in mind that you will still have to download most of the game's content from inside the Fortnite iOS app after you reinstall it on your iPhone or iPad.
The future for Fortnite on iOS
Right now, Epic and Apple are feuding, both in public and in court, over Apple's App Store rules. At the time of this article, there's no way for iOS devices to install Fortnite on a new iOS account that has not installed the game before. People who have installed Fortnite on their iOS devices won't get new updates for the game, either.
Download and install Fortnite for Android – Epic Games app install
If you choose, you can still get the Fortnite installer for Android via the Epic Games app. You will have to download and install it on your smartphone first, and then download and install Fortnite for Android. Since this app is not on the Google Play Store, here is how you get the app:
- Use a web browser on your phone and surf to the Fortnite.com/Android URL.
- You should see a banner telling you to get the Epic Games app. Tap on it.
- You will see a warning claiming that this type of file can harm your device. Tap on "OK" to proceed anyway.
- You will then see the EpicGamesApp.apk file downloaded. Tap on the "Open" link.
- Your phone might tell you that your browser cannot install apps from this source. You will then have to go to your browser's settings and then tap on the slider or option to allow the browser to install the app from that source.
- Finally, you will be asked by the Epic Games app itself if you want to install it. Tap on the "Install" option to do so.
- You should now install the Epic Games app on your Android device.
Download and install Fortnite for Android via Epic Games app – Game download and install
Now we will actually download and install Fortnite for Android from the Epic Games App. Here's how to do it.
- Tap on the newly installed Epic Games App icon on your phone.
- You should see a big banner for Fortnite, along with the only other Epic Games Android game, Battle Breakers. Tap on the Fortnite banner.
- You should see something pop up asking you to install the game. Tap on the "Install" button.
- You should see the button turn into a progress bar as the app downloads and installs Fortnite.
- Finally, the app will show you two buttons; one to uninstall Fortnite and one to launch Fortnite. Tap on the Launch button.

Download and install Fortnite for Android via Epic Games app – Samsung Galaxy Store
If you own a Samsung Android smartphone or tablet, you can go to the Galaxy Store and install the Epic Games app on your device. This eliminates the need to go to the Fortnite website. Once installed, follow the procedure above to install Fortnite for Android.
Download and install Fortnite for Android – Hardware or software system requirements
Before you use the Fortnite installer for Android, make sure your smartphone or tablet meets or exceeds the following hardware or software system requirements:
- Android 8.0 or higher
- 3GB of free onboard storage
- At least 4GB of system RAM
- GPU requirements: Qualcomm Adreno 530 or higher, ARM Mali-G71 MP20, ARM Mali-G72 MP12 or higher
If your phone or tablet meets or exceeds those specs, you can play Fortnite for Android.
Fortnite for Android 60FPS support
In 2020, OnePlus announced that its OnePlus 8 series of smartphones could run Fortnite for Android at a blazing 90FPS. That is due in part to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and its 90Hz display. Later in 2020, Epic announced that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7 Plus tablets could also support the game at 90fps. It's likely that other phones and tablets can also run the game at that high of a frame rate if they have a processor and display that matches or beats the OnePlus 8.

Fortnite for Android on rooted or jailbroken phones
Epic does not currently support Fortnite for Android on jailbroken phones. It also does not currently support playing the game on rooted phones. However, the company added that it is looking into supporting rooted devices if the developer can also offer effective anti-cheat solutions.
Fortnite for Android support for Bluetooth headsets and voice chat
The good news is that Fortnite for Android does support Bluetooth headsets for listening to the game and other players. The bad news is that those headsets don't currently support voice chat as well. The game itself supports voice chat, but you will have to use your phone's microphone to chat with friends.
Fortnite for Android controller, mouse, and keyboard support
If you want to install Fortnite for Android and play it with a console-like game controller, the good news is that Epic recently updated the game to support Bluetooth controllers. The FAQ page says most Bluetooth controllers should work with the game, but it also listed a few specific devices:
- Steelseries Stratus XL
- Gamevice
- Sony Dual Shock Controller 4
- Microsoft Xbox Wireless Controller
- Razer Raiju
- Razer Junglecat
- Moto Gamepad (Moto Mod for Moto Z phone series)
Unfortunately, Fortnite for Android does not support mouse or keyboard controllers. Indeed, if you decide to connect a mouse or keyboard to your phone to play Fortnite for Android, Epic says it will remove you from your match.
